BEYOND THE CANVAS…

Katlin is known mostly for her oil paintings on canvas depicting abstract flora and fauna through suggestions of shapes and association with colors in nature. Her use of both color and shape help the viewer identify the unique tropical palette that transcends throughout her work and makes it recognizable and distinguishable from other artists.

This abstract tropical color has now gone beyond the canvas and onto numerous walls ranging from public hotel lounges to private residences. Even though Katlin does not consider herself a “muralist”, she is a painter at heart and has progressed as an artist to be able to tackle other mediums and spaces outside of her regular studio practice.

Inside of “The Canary Room” at The Casa Marina Resort

In the last three years, Katlin has painted several murals throughout Key West and is mostly recognized from her work at “The Canary Room” inside the Casa Marina Hotel and Resort. The entire space is hand-painted with oil directly onto the walls and arched ceilings of the room, creating an indoor garden effect featuring native fauna, flora and birds of Key West.

Katlin’s most recent mural was completed this month inside a very special collector’s home. This collector is a member of the South Florida Orchid Society and wanted a custom mural as the statement wall of the entrance to her home. She wanted the focal point of the mural to portray all the flowers and plants that are in her backyard garden oasis. Katlin spent several days on location bringing the vision to life.
