New Addition to an Old Street
Island Contemporary is not just a gallery and studio space, but more of a lifestyle choice by founders and artists Katlin Spain and Juan Camilo. That “lifestyle choice” started in 2018 when we decided to relocate to the island of Key West and unbeknownst to us, root ourselves in this vibrant community that we now call home.
Early on, we overheard an old conch walking with his pal down Duval St. say that “this island will give you what you want from it, just be mindful of what that is” and that notion never left us. We assume he was referring to the bountiful opportunities that Key West has to offer along with the vices that it is attached to the island paradise. We are big believers that “luck” is a combination of hard work meets opportunity so we kept our head down and focused on work hoping to eventually get “lucky”. Fast-forward to 2023 and the fruits of labor are coming to fruition; luck is in our favor.
As we celebrate our near two year mark as “Island Contemporary”, we look back at how we got here and are exited to embark on what the next two years will bring. Part of our luck is the opportunity to grow and expand to another location in a historic area of Cayo Hueso, the world famous Kinos Plaza (Kinos Sandals). We are proud to call this corner of old Key West the new home of Island Contemporary and are thrilled to be part of such a staple to the island.
You can still find us inside the Shops at Mallory Square at 291 Front Street. suite 114 but make sure to see our new location at 105 Fitzpatrick St, a short 2 minute walk from one location to the other.
During the slow and hot summer months we will be fine-tuning our space so we can welcome the entire community to a grand opening this Fall. Stay tuned for more details on the grand opening event along with exciting upcoming collaborations and projects from both Katlin and Juan.
